OVERNIGHT: The Manitou Springs police officers and deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office were involved in a shooting last night. One suspect was killed.
A person and a police dog are dead after law enforcement and a suspect exchanged fire in Manitou Springs Monday night, the Colorado Springs Police Department says.
According to CSPD, Manitou Springs Police Department officers and deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office responded to a menacing report inside a business in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue. CSPD said when officials contacted the person, the suspect fired at least one round at law enforcement. At least one Manitou Springs police officer and at least one El Paso County deputy shot back, striking the person who died on the scene.The involved law enforcement officials are on administrative leave during the investigation.
