James Gunn's DC Universe will adapt many villains from the comics in the future, and some of them could be to the DCU what Thanos was to the MCU.

As the new DC Universe gets ready to lift off the ground in the near future, attention turns to which characters will be the focus of the universe's storytelling, with several villains from DC Comics' history posing great arguments to become the DC Universe's version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Thanos.

There was already an attempt to have Darkseid serve as DC's Big Bad on the movie side. Director Zack Snyder originally intended for Darkseid to be the main villain of 2017's Justice League. That was changed when Snyder departed the film due to a personal tragedy, and DC brought in The Avengers director Joss Whedon to oversee extensive reshoots that changed the movie greatly. Darkseid was cut from the film in the process.

Nekron Lanterns is said to begin an epic story for the DC Universe, with Gunn revealing that the Green Lantern series will follow Hal Jordan and John Stewart trying to solve an Earth-based mystery in the vein of True Detective. Lanterns sees the duo discover an "ancient horror on Earth," which could lead to the DC Universe featuring Nekron and one of the comics' most iconic events, Blackest Night.

Lex Luthor/ Legion of Doom Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor was assembling a team of villains in Justice League's post-credits scene. While the actor is likely not coming back as the villain, the Lex Luthor that should be present on Gunn's Superman: Legacy could carry on that plan in the new DC Universe.
