Steve-O did a gainer back flip from the Commerce Street bridge. There were plans to charge him with deadly conduct.
Editor's note: This story has been updated. His hashtag said it all: #notagoodidea. Ten years ago this week, “Jackass” TV show star Steve-O did a gainer back flip from the Commerce Street bridge at Rivercenter mall into the shallow waters of the San Antonio River below. On March 14, 2014, Steve-O shared a photo of himself on Facebook in mid-leap as spectators can be seen looking on in disbelief. The water below is only 4 feet deep.
Ozzy Osbourne urinated in Alamo Plaza 42 years ago “I did a good deed today by proving it’s not safe to jump off the bridge at the San Antonio River Walk,” he said in the post. “It’s shallow — I hit the bottom when I landed this gainer flip.” He included the hashtag #notagoodidea in the social media post. But Steve-O, whose real name is Stephen Glover, landed in more than shallow water. City statutes forbid anyone from jumping or swimming in the San Antonio River.
