17-year-old boy injured in hit-and-run crash in Oceanside has died [Breaking]
A 17-year-old boy hurt in a hit-and-run crash in an Oceanside parking lot Tuesday died a day later, police said Thursday.
A 15-year-old boy was detained in connection with the collision, then released to his parents, according to Oceanside police.The incident began about 11:15 p.m. with a report of a fight in the area of North Harbor Drive near Santa Fe Avenue. Officers found the 17-year-old boy unresponsive and lying in the parking lot at the intersection of North Pacific Street and North Harbor Drive.Firefighters started medical aid. The injured boy was taken by helicopter to a hospital where he died about 4 p.m.
Police located and detained a 15-year-old boy who they said fled after the collision, said department spokesperson Jennifer Atenza. Based on witness statements and physical evidence, police believe the two teens had been involved in an altercation, Atenza said.No further details were available Thursday.
