19 of 20 Small SUVs Crash Tested by IIHS Did Not Earn a Good Score

IIHS introduced a new side crash test to address the higher speed crashes this year and only one vehicle earned a Good rating.

Escape received a Good rating in both driver and passenger neck protection. The compact SUV only receives a Marginal chest, pelvis and head protection score. The rear passenger benefits from Good-rated head protection and Acceptable-rated chest and pelvis protection. The overall structure and safety cage was rated as Acceptable.The GMC Terrain received a Good pelvis protection rating for the driver and rear passenger.

Passenger pelvis protection was also rated as Acceptable but was rated as Poor for the driver the vehicle. The overall structure and safety cage earned an Acceptable score.The Buick Encore received a Good rating for driver and passenger head, neck, pelvis protection. Chest protection for the passenger was also rated Good but was named as Marginal for the driver. The overall structure and safety cage was rated as Good.
