A 19-year-old man was fatally shot Tuesday evening at an Arlington motel, police said.

Officers responded just after 6 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the 6000 block of South Cooper Street, near Sublett Road. A couple who called 911 said they picked up the 19-year-old who had been shot and were taking him to the hospital, according to a news release. First responders caught up with the couple and transported the teen by ambulance to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The teen was identified by the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office as Mareon Robertson.

Investigators said Robertson got into the backseat of a car parked outside the motel, and as he exited the vehicle a few moments later, he was struck by gunfire. The shooter then got into the car and fled, police said. Arlington police spokesman Sgt. Chris Moore said investigators have not ruled out that “high-risk activity” was involved in the shooting. Moore said police use the term when there’s a “strong indication” that an action is dangerous or may lead to death. He declined to say what the “high-risk activity” was, citing the ongoing investigation.. Maggie writes about breaking news, crime and weather.
