Authorities arrested two suspects after a teenager was killed and another wounded in aXavier Aguilar, 21, was arrested in Grand Prairie and Sonny Ayala, 20, was taken into custody in Arlington. Each faces charges of capital murder, aggravated assault and engaging in organized crime, police said, and it was unclear whether they had attorneys.
Kennedale police responded the afternoon of Oct. 26 to the 6300 block of Treepoint Drive, near the city’s border with Arlington. Officers and paramedics found 18-year-old Hayden Scarlato of Arlington and a juvenile with gunshot wounds in a parked car, police said. They were taken to an Arlington hospital, where Scarlato died. Police did not provide an update Friday on the condition of the juvenile, who they previously said was stable.Aguilar and Ayala are in police custody awaiting arraignment and their bail has not been set.
Police said detectives executed search and arrest warrants Thursday with assistance from the Arlington, Grand Prairie, Mansfield police departments, the Drug Enforcement Agency and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. “We are truly grateful for the assistance provided by our regional and federal agency partners in apprehending these suspects,” Kennedale police Chief Mike Holguin said in a written statement. “We appreciate the professionalism and the hard work by every member of each agency to take these very dangerous individuals off the street.”
