DEVELOPING: Police respond to gunfire at Centennial Park in East Anchorage
Two officers conducting a security check at the campground saw a man they suspected of earlier eluding police, he said.
Details were still emerging late Wednesday night. Witnesses reported hearing a barrage of shots fired around 8 p.m. The Anchorage Police Department’s mobile crime scene van, used to investigate serious crimes, arrived a little after 9 p.m. “It was like firecrackers,” said Frank Cleveland, who was just about to cook dinner at his campsite, which is north of the area police had blocked off.
