Two state prison inmates died over the weekend at William Donaldson Correctional Facility in western Jefferson County.
In the first case, the 69-year-old man was found unresponsive at 8:02 a.m. Saturday in his bed in a dormitory. He was pronounced dead at 8:15 a.m.
Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said the inmate was being treated for multiple medical ailments and his death is believed to be of natural causes. An autopsy showed no signs of trauma or foul play.In the second death, Evans was found unresponsive in his private cell at 2:55 a.m. Sunday. He was pronounced dead at 3:07 a.m.
An autopsy showed no signs of foul play or trauma, Yates said. His cause of death is pending further lab studies. Evans was serving a life sentence for murder, rape, and sexual abuse for a 2005 conviction out of Houston County.
