A Columbus development team is planning to build a 228-unit apartment on Stelzer Road near John Glenn Columbus International Airport.
A pair of Columbus developers is planning to build 228 apartments on Stelzer Road near John Glenn Columbus International Airport.
The Robert Weiler Co. and Rocky Point Partners have proposed the eight-building complex on 12 acres at 1185 Stelzer Rd., north of the airport, about three miles south of Easton Town Center. "Stelzer’s easily navigable, and we think there's a need for housing in the northeast quadrant of Columbus, with, and all the other jobs being created that way," said Tom O'Brien, a partner in Rocky Point.
O'Brien said the buildings will be three-story walkups and include some affordable apartments and a pool. Developers also plan to build walking paths and benches along a stream on the site. The project would be the second large new apartment complex on that stretch of Stelzer Road, followingO'Brien said developers hope to begin construction this year, assuming the project receives necessary approvals.
The property must be rezoned from limited manufacturing and commercial development to apartment. That request was scheduled to come before the Columbus Development Commission late Thursday. The commission's zoning committee unanimously voted in favor of the rezoning in December.
