Former Virginia football player Christopher Darnell Jones is in custody as a suspect in a fatal shooting of three Virginia football players on Sunday.
The arrest comes after a manhunt was underway Sunday through Monday morning for Jones, who was identified as the primary suspect in a tragedy that saw three members of the University of Virginia football team killed.
Chandler was a transfer from University of Wisconsin out of Huntersville, North Carolina who had not appeared in a game this season. Perry is a Miami, Florida native who tallied five tackles this season, including two in Saturday’s loss to Pitt. Jones is a former walk-on running back who was no longer on the football roster but still enrolled in school at UVA. He was last on the team in 2018, and is out of Petersburg, Virginia. He never appeared in a game for the Cavaliers. Per, Longo, Jones was known to the school’s threat assessment team after having been reported by a third party for making comments about owning a gun.
