is gunning for his third national victory after winning the indoor mile and outdoor 1500 meters in 2019.
In January, Engels—who trains with Brazier under coach Pete Julian in Portland, Oregon—won the indoor mile at Boston University’s John Thomas Terrier Classic in a time of. Earlier this month, Engels split 1:49.03 for 800 meters at the Camel City Invitational, placing third. The winner of that race, 800-meter Olympic bronze medalist Clayton Murphy, will also be competing against Engels in the 1500 meters this weekend.
Along with Murphy, Engels will face a fast field that includes Josh Thompson, who placed third in the 1500 meters at outdoor nationals, as well as Samuel Prakel, Brannon Kidder, Willy Fink, and Eric Holt, all of whom have run below 4:00 for an indoor mile this year.
