A new study reportedly found an amber of 99 million-year-old flowers at the feet of dinosaurs.

The amber consists of two flowers in what is now known as Myanmar. The study suggests these flowers may help researchers understand how “flowering plants evolved.”, ancient flowers aren’t well documented as fossils. Hence, the history of ancient flowers is being regarded as something special.

Robert Spicer is both a visiting professor at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden in China and a professor emeritus in the School of Environment, Earth and Ecosystem Sciences at The Open University in the United Kingdom. He said leaves have a “higher preservation potential” than flowers. “Leaves are generally produced in larger numbers than flowers and are much more robust -- they have a higher preservation potential.discarded ‘as is’ at the end of its useful life, while a flower transforms into a fruit, which then gets eaten or disintegrates as part of the seed dispersal process,” Spicer. “These particular flowers are almost identical to their modern relatives. There really are no major differences.

Flowering plants are reportedly believed to have played a significant role in the evolution of life. According to the study, flowering plants helped in the evolution and diversification of amphibians, birds, insects, and mammals, evolving more life on land than in the sea. “Flowering plants reproduce more quickly than other plants, have more complex breeding mechanisms -- a wide variety of flower forms, for example, often in close ‘collaboration’ with pollinators. This drives mutual coevolution of many lineages of plants and animals, shaping ecosystems,” Spicer said.
