Bode’s new LA shop evokes an old-school Natural History Museum in both aesthetic and ethos. Take a look inside:
There’s something mesmerizing about a Dodo bird: Its squat body and feeble wings; the beady little eyes that peek out from behind its oversized beak. The fact that when you see an image of one, your first thought can’t help but be: Extinct.and her husband Aaron Aujla used the bird as a jumping-off point for the interior of the new Bode store in Los Angeles.
and made it one of New York’s most celebrated menswear brands, but also one of the industry’s rare success stories in terms of sustainability.But part of that success, no doubt, is that—despite the occasional cautionary symbolism—the brand’s antique lace tops, quilted patchwork trousers, and hand-embroidered tees are also steeped in a playful sort of intimacy. They feel personal; timeless. Or, as Bode puts it: “All of our clothing has a narrative.
That narrative informs just about everything in this new 3,000 square foot space, which, with its custom-built American walnut cabinetry, exposed wood beams, recessed archways, hand-painted signs, and upholstered benches, immediately calls to mind an old-school Natural History Museum. There’s even a little hand-lettered “Thank you for visiting!” sign painted into the wall above the front door.
collaborated with Bode to create the interior. “We wanted it to be an expression of something beyond; it’s about education and creating a universe.”That universe extends to the community Bode and Aujla have cultivated together over the years, not just in the fashion world.

Thanks to the new store’s generous proportions, each category of Bode’s offerings is individually displayed—something the brand hasn’t been able to fully do before.
