Startling discovery on microfilm reveals Texas A&M's storied football history...
Courtesy of Lamb FamilyCOLLEGE STATION — Twenty-five years ago, Newt Lamb’s visit to the Houston Public Library changed Texas A&M history.
“But how could it be wrong in the newspaper? I’m sitting here looking at the microfilm and the dates.” The peculiarity aside of A&M playing an alleged high school squad to kick off its football history, Lamb discovered the Aggies had in fact played the University of Texas more than a month before Ball. The Longhorns prevailed 38-0 in Austin, and the Aggies opted out of playing the second half.
In 1997, however, he used what was still considered newfangled technology at the time — email — to communicate his findings.
