The hidden hotspot in Cortlandt Alley, tucked away in the cellar of the Walker Hotel, takes cues from the building's former Victorian-era life as a ribbons and buttons company. Inside, patrons will find richly upholstered booths, tarnished gilded accents, and a well-worn floor.
The cocktail menu was dreamed up by Chris Covey, a Milk & Honey alum—for the uninitiated, that's the bar credited with kicking off the global speakeasy craze—and features a wide array of creations named after city landmarks or places that inspired them.Covey's take on a New-Years-Improved champagne cocktail is, he admits, “not for the faint of heart, but is delightful and bright at the same time.
