Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is no stranger to controversy but the latest rumor that he may boycott Super Bowl LVI – over the NFL's coronavirus rules – is pure 'fake news,' he said on social media.

On Friday morning, Esiason presented his radio co-host Gio Giannottia with a Rodgers-boycott text message he received and instructed him to read it aloud to listeners.

"Boom, the Rodgers saga continues to get crazier and crazier," Giannottia read. "I've been told by multiple people in Aaron's direct circle that if the Packers make the Super Bowl, he will use the week leading up to the Super Bowl to prove a major point.""He will threaten the NFL by saying he won't play in the big game, or next season, if they don't eliminate some of the COVID-related rules," the co-host continued.

The text then said Rodgers has spoken to his backup quarterback, Jordan Love , about the boycott, telling him to "be ready." "Like you said, he's got to make it first, but Super Bowl week will be set on fire and send [NFL Commissioner Roger] Goodell into a frenzy," Giannottia concluded. While Esiason confirmed the text came from a "reliable" source, Rodgers' tweet iced the rumor.
