US President Joe Biden announces investment worth $42B to ensure that all Americans have access to high-speed broadband by 2030

US President Joe Biden says more than 35,000 projects are already funded or under way to lay cable that provides internet access and some of those are from $25 billion in initial funding as part of the "American Rescue Plan".With Monday’s announcement, the administration is launching the second phase of its “Investing in America” tour. / Photo: AP

Biden announced that more than $40 billion would be distributed across the country to deliver high-speed internet in places where there's either no service, or service is too slow. Texas and California - the two most populous US states - top the funding list at $3.1 billion and $1.9 billion, respectively. But other, less populous states like Virginia, Alabama and Louisiana cracked the top 10 list for funding due to lack of broadband access. These states have large rural areas with less internet connectivity than their major cities.

As part of the sales pitch, Biden is also set to give what White House officials describe as a major economic speech on Wednesday in Chicago, laying out so-called"Bidenomics," according to a memo on Monday from senior advisers Anita Dunn and Mike Donilon to congressional Democrats and other allies.
