Academy Sports will open stores in Bulverde and in West Virginia, Tennessee, Indiana, North Carolina, Florida, Alabama and Ohio this fall.
Academy Sports and Outdoors this fall will open nine stores in eight states, including one north of San Antonio in the Hill Country , as part of an ongoing national expansion. The Katy -based sporting goods retailer has opened three stores this year.
“As we expected, our customer remains challenged by the current macroeconomic environment,” CEO Steve Lawrence said on the first-quarter earnings call. “Inflation is keeping prices at elevated levels, while personal savings have been depleted, causing our customers to be tight with their discretionary spending.” Overall, Academy’s year-over-year sales fell 1.4% to $1.
