The Rockets’ losing streak hit 13 games after Saturday’s loss in Minneapolis. Déjà vu does not quite accurately describe it, as they have indeed lived this experience before. The Rockets endured a 15-game losing streak during the 2021-22 season, or the 20-game losing streak the season before that. NBA players frequently talk about adjusting their mindsets from college or high school. And while few expect to come into the league and immediately win a championship, no matter what soundbites may come out of preseason training camps, few expect to lose more often than they win. For Rockets who are still in their first or second NBA seasons, like rookie Jabari Smith Jr. and second-year guard Jalen Green, the dissonance can be especially jarring.
“You just got to really just keep in the back of your head that it's all for a bigger picture,” Tate said. “As long as we can just come in here and control what we can control, be the best professionals we can be and keep putting in the work, that's all we can do, and it'll eventually turn.”
