Altoona Fire Chief Tim Crow reported his town for burning vegetation in violation of a no-burn order. The fire was also too close to a occupied building. The town of Altoona has paid a $5,000 fine to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management.

The town admitted the violation, saying it was aware of the burn ban, which goes into effect every year from May 1 to Oct. 31 but allows campfires and outdoor fireplaces.

On Aug. 16, the Altoona town council agreed to begin “strict enforcement” of several ordinances, as a result of the town paying the fine, including the no burn order.Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.
