Alabama bolstered its defensive backs group with a transfer from Charlotte.
. The Crimson Tide did just that on Monday, when Kameron Howard, formerly of Charlotte, committed to join the team via the transfer portal. He’ll have three seasons of eligibility remaining with the Tide. Howard started two games and played in all 12 for the 49ers last season.
The 5-foot-11, 189-pound safety had 38 tackles and two picks for Charlotte in 2023. He’ll help fill what had been one of Alabama’s thinner position groups, which saw defections due to the NFL Draft, and Nick Saban’s January retirement. UA head coach Kalen DeBoer was asked toward the end of spring practice where he wanted to bolster to the roster during the spring portal window, and defensive back was one of the spots he mentioned.
“We’re probably a guy short or so,” DeBoer said. “Offensive line , we’re probably a guy short. Just from the numbers that you typically would see and also where we want to be. So not saying we’ll take a look and evaluate, and you never know.” The spring portal entry window is scheduled to run through Tuesday. Players can still be signed out of the portal after that day, but undergraduate entry will be done.‘Mr. Irrelevant’: Alabama’s Jaylen Key is final pick of 2024 NFL Draft, goes to New York JetsIf you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
