We chat with the real-life inventor of Tetris, Alexey Pajitnov, and the man who brought it to the rest of the world, Henk Rogers, about similar and different Taron Egerton and Nikita Efremov's versions of them were in the AppleTVPlus movie:
Apple TV+ has just premiered the most unlikely spy thriller of the year, Tetris. Written by Noah Pink and directed Jon S. Baird, the film dramatizes the true story of the block game, from its humble origins in the USSR to its explosive release on Nintendo's Game Boy. Tetris opens with the Dutch-born, American-raised entrepreneur Henk Rogers and his accidental discovery of the game in Las Vegas.
Henk Rogers: It was probably around 2015, eight years ago. Frankly speaking, I was terrified. [Laughs] This could go really bad, because there's so many B-movies or whatever you want to call it that just never see the light of day. I was very skeptical. Alexey Pajitnov: It was about the same all the way. Nikita does a tremendous job of kind of peeking into my image and maintaining it all through the movies. It wasn't that far or this close; everything was very truthful, but there was a distance, obviously.
Henk Rogers: What I hope people will take away from this is that friendship trumps ideology and countries. Countries can fall and rise and all kinds of things, and we are still friends no matter what happens in our respective countries. Ideology and the government can just all go take a hike. Humans are humans at the end of the day, and we can all be friends.
