The Summer I Turned Pretty knows us All Too Well.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT As promised, The Summer I Turned Pretty season 2 features plenty of Taylor Swift needle drops, but not all the singer-songwriter's tracks are used to their full potential. Jenny Han, who penned the Summer I Turned Pretty novels and adapted the series for TV, revealed ahead of the season 2 premiere that the coming-of-age romance's sophomore outing boasts nine Swift songs as well as some trailer and teaser tracks.
10 "Hey Stephen " — Episode 2 Honestly, given the sheer number of the artist's songs and Easter eggs the show uses, it's surprising that the series doesn't feature Taylor Swift in an acting role too. This hit from Fearless loses a few points simply because it's more of an Easter egg than a proper needle drop.
8 "Snow on the Beach" — Episode 6 While Belly and Conrad are still an item, they head up to Cousins in the off-season and wander onto the beach... and then it snows. But instead of slipping this Midnights track into that scene, The Summer I Turned Pretty chooses a much less apt moment: the Cousins crew's last-hurrah house party. It's not just the lack of snow-laden shores that make this episode 6 "Snow on the Beach" needle drop lackluster, though.
Aside from that, it's a significant needle drop in season 1 because it backs Belly and Conrad's first kiss. In the season 2 premiere, The Summer I Turned Pretty features a reprise of the song, which kind of makes "This Love" Belly and Conrad's unofficial theme. A tender song, the 1989 track uses ocean imagery to convey a story about the speaker's past love returning to them. The love is both good and bad, but resurfaces when it's needed.
"The words that you whispered for just us to know," the artist laments. "You told me you love me, so why did you go away?" While viewers don't yet know all the details of Belly and Conrad's breakup and subsequent falling out in episode 1, "Last Kiss" perfectly sets up Belly's emotional state.
