Amazon on Wednesday announced it will use drones to deliver prescriptions at customer doorsteps within an hour of making an order.
Amazon will soon make prescription drugs fall from the sky when the e-commerce giant becomes the latest company to test drone deliveries for medications. The company said Wednesday, Oct. 18, that customers in College Station, Texas, can now get prescriptions delivered by a drone, as in this picture provided by the company, within an hour of placing their order.
“With drone delivery, in many cases the products are going to show up at your house faster than if you went out to get it,” John Love, vice president for Amazon Pharmacy, said in. “It really is unparalleled in the experience for getting prescription medication.” Amazon says customers will be able to choose from more than 500 medications, a list that includes common treatments for conditions like the flu or pneumonia, but not controlled substances.
A key feature with drone prescription deliver is speed – getting medications to patients as quickly as possible, Dr. Vin Gupta, chief medical officer of Amazon Pharmacy, said in a statement.
