Here's a look back at a war that has run more than 18 years, longer than World War I, World War II and the Korean War combined

The war in Afghanistan has spanned the administrations of presidents George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Donald Trump. The cost has been high. Now, peace is in the making, with the U.S. and the Taliban signing a landmark agreement in Doha, Qatar, on Saturday meant to lead to the withdrawal of American forces from a war that has claimed the lives of more than 2,300 U.S. troops and so far cost the U.S. nearly $2 trillion, according to Brown University’s Cost of War Project.
