The plane’s new paint job was unveiled ahead of the groundbreaking Friday on the National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington.
, which is being built to tell the story of the 3,511 recipients of the award for valor in combat. American Airlines gave a $1 million donation to help fund the new museum. Friday, March 25, is also National Medal of Honor Day. There is also a mural of soldiers from the seven major wars and operations, from the Civil War, when the award was first commissioned by President Abraham Lincoln, all the way to the 21st century’s Global War on Terror.The plane is also emblazoned with the phrase “Medal of Honor” and the words “Courage, Sacrifice, Integrity, Commitment, Patriotism, Citizenship,” which are the six values of the Medal of Honor.
