Screen Rant's exclusive American Underdog clip sees Zachary Levi's Kurt Warner arriving at try-outs for the Green Bay Packers in time for the film's digital release. The sports biopic centers on twenty-something Warner as he seeks to make his dreams of being a quarterback in the National Football League come true, struggling to find any team to find interest in taking him on.
Zachary Levi leads the cast of American Underdog alongside Anna Paquin as Brenda, Dennis Quaid, Chance Kelly, Cindy Hogan, Ser'Darius Blain, Adam Baldwin, Bruce McGill and Danny Vinson. Development on the biopic was first announced in early 2020 as Andrew and Jon Erwin, the directing duo behind the hit faith-based music biopic I Can Only Imagine, signed on to write and direct and production slated to begin in early 2021 following COVID-related delays.
American Underdog proved to be a surprise success upon its release in December, receiving generally positive reviews from critics for its effective handling of its sports drama and Christian genres, currently sitting at a 75 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Given the film's stiff competition against Sing 2, Spider-Man: No Way Home and The King's Man, it wouldn't perform as well as the Erwins' I Can Only Imagine, but would still bring in $5.
