The only way some pets could be cuter is if they're in a Halloween costume, and some pet owners spend big bucks to make their pets the talk of the block.
According to the National Retail Federation, Americans are expected to spend $700 million on costumes for their pets this year. There are some tips and warnings about pet costumes from The Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County that pet parents need to know.
Make sure your pet is comfortable in the costume and can freely move around. When they have a costume on, keep checking to make sure they are not overheated. Plus avoid costumers with pieces that could become a choking hazard. Remember that trick or treaters coming to your door changes the typical sights and sounds your pet is used to and could cause them stress.
Don’t give your pet a chance to sneak a treat from the candy bowl. Chocolate is toxic to animals, according to the Humane Society, along with xylitol which is found in sugar free treats. In case you are still deciding on a costume for your pet, the Retail Federation said the most popular costumes for pets are a bumble bee, a pumpkin, and hot dog.
