Power wire problems in Penn Station have resulted in major service disruptions.
Thursday caused Amtrak to suspend service on the busy Northeast Corridor between New Haven, Connecticut and Philadelphia, also halting NJ Transit service.
The Amtrak suspension updates an earlier alert warning of one-hour delays due to an overhead power outage between Newark and New York. A later Amtrak’s alert on X said service was suspended and warned of “significant” delays while crews work to repair the wires. NJ Transit suspended service at 3:26 p.m. and diverted Midtown Direct trains to Hoboken.
NJ Transit warned its riders at 2:42 p.m. to brace for up to 60-minute delays and implemented cross honoring of rail tickets on PATH at Newark Penn, Hoboken and 33rd Street stations, and on NJ Transit and private carrier buses. However, PATH was having its own problems with train network communication problems at Newark Penn Station, according to a PATH alert.
High temperatures may require trains to operate at lower speeds, resulting in delays of up to 60 minutes between the hours 12 noon and 7:30 p.m. for the remainder of the week.
