The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is warning anglers about increasing numbers of two invasive fish species in local rivers and tributaries.

The PFBC says that anglers casting for catfish in the Delaware River basin are the most likely to encounter the species. According to Sean Hartzell, PFBC Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator, Blue Catfish have also been found in the Chesapeake Bay, where the invasive fish impacted "economically important commercial and sport fisheries." Less is known about the potential impacts of the Freshwater Drum, but Hartzell said the fish threaten native freshwater mussel populations in the Delaware River basin.
