“That’s the race, I guess; crazy stuff happens, it’s been a crazy race, and this whole winter has just been one thing after the next.”
CRIPPLE, Alaska - Leading the pack into Cripple Wednesday night was five-time Iditarod Champion Dallas Seavey, who cruised into the Iditarod 52 checkpoint with 15 dogs in harness.
The veteran musher also said he was looking to put a scary run-in with a moose, which he said he shot in defense of his team, behind him. Seavey has expressed remorse over mishandling the moose situation but stopped short of saying the hurried job was related to maintaining a competitive edge. He toldthat he had “10 minutes of shock brain” and that “there’s a million things that are so stupid obvious when you actually have the chance to think about it.”
“She’s not out of the woods,” he added. “Infection is always a concern. But every update I’ve gotten, progressively, has been better.”
