Toms River police says violators will be cited for disorderly conduct. Hurricane Lee is churning rough surf and rip currents along the Jersey Shore.

A second Jersey Shore issued a warning Friday that police will give tickets to beachgoers this weekend who defy red flag warnings barring swimming due to strong rip currents and dangerous surf from Hurricane Lee.Seaside HeightsWhile Ortley Beach in Toms River will be open this weekend and lifeguards will be on duty from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Police in Seaside Park will not be following the lead of their neighbors in Toms River and Seaside Heights, though. “We don’t have any plans to do that,” Sgt. Andrew Casola, a police spokesman said when asked about potentially ticketing swimmers. Seaside Heights Mayor Tony Vaz also said people who enter the ocean when lifeguards are not on duty are also subject to being ticketed after warnings are issued.
