Screen Junkies' Honest Trailer series returns with an episode centered on Arcane, highlighting Netflix's surprisingly good video game adaptation. Created and written by Riot Games Creative Director Christian Linke and Creative Designer Alex Yee, the animated series serves as a prequel to the studio's hit multiplayer online battle arena video game League of Legends.
Hailee Steinfeld and Ella Purnell lead the cast of Arcane as Vi and Jinx alongside Mia Sinclair Jenness as Powder, Kevin Alejandro, Katie Leung, Jason Spisak, Harry Lloyd, Toks Olagundoye, JB Blanc, Reed Shannon and Mick Wingert. Development on the series was first announced in 2019 during the League of Legends 10th anniversary celebration, with Riot Games and Fortiche partnering with Netflix for the adaptation.
In addition to the positive reviews, Arcane season 1 became a smash in the ratings for Netflix, quickly becoming its highest-rated series of all-time and ranking first on the Netflix Top 10 Chart in 52 countries and surpassing Stranger Things and The Mandalorian as the most-streamed show of the year in the U.S. This success led subsequently led Netflix to renewing the show for a season 2, which is expected to premiere on the streaming platform sometime after 2022.
