Grace Franklin, the 15-year-old granddaughter of one of the most famous singers in American history, auditioned on the season 20 premiere of 'American Idol' airing Sunday night. But her audition was one that caused a tiff among the judges.
At the audition, she sang “Killing Me Softly” in front of the three judges - Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.
The judges were divided on Grace’s performance, with Luke voting no and Perry voting yes. It was up to Ritchie as to whether she would go to on to the next phase of competition or not, and Perry and Ritchie got into an argument over whether she should make it to the next round. “Listen, she’s got stardust. Give her a shot. Give her a chance,” Perry passionately interrupted Richie. “I’m sure Aretha wasn’t Aretha when she walked into the room, but somebody said yes, I want to work with you. I want to develop you. You’ve got something. She’s got stardust on her.”
