With less than a month to go, we are looking forward to the launch of GeneralAtomics' GAzelle satellite, which will house NOAA's Argos4 instrument onboard. Argos-4 will become part of a global network of sensors that study and protect the environment.
Argos is a unique worldwide location and data collection system dedicated to studying and protecting the environment.Animals that are tagged are split into three types: Birds, Terrestrial Mammals, and Marine Animals. By combining the data acquired with their location, Argos enables biologists and scientists around the world to improve their understanding of animal behavior, such as their movements, foraging strategies, reproduction and the way they adapt to their surrounding environment.

A geologist in Kainantu, the largest town close to the epicenter, reported dishes crashing from shelves and shaking for more than a minute. The quake hit at 9:46 a.m. local time at a depth of some 30 to 40 miles located 42 miles east of Kainantu, a sparsely populated area. NOAA has since advised there is no tsunami threat. Papua New Guinea, the eastern half of the island of New Guinea, sits on the Pacific’s “Ring of Fire,” the arc of seismic faults around the Pacific Ocean where much of the world’s earthquakes and volcanic activity occurs.
