Cardinals cornerback Antonio Hamilton returned Sunday from second-degree burns on his body, which forced him to miss the first four games of the season.
Antonio Hamilton ignored all of the requests for interviews for several weeks until the Arizona Cardinals cornerback was ready to open up about the life-threatening kitchen accident that badly burned his feet.
Things escalated fast. Hamilton's daughters were crying, the smoke alarms in his house were going off, and in his instinctual effort to get the pot off the stove, his face was burned. The physical healing continues. Hamilton can't sit for long stretches without feeling a tingling sensation from the nerve endings on his feet. His skin is healed, but it's new skin.He has no muscular damage, but he lost a good deal of weight from not being able to eat due to the extreme pain he felt.
The fire and burns were a freak accident, the result of which Hamilton relied on faith and family to get through. Football took an immediate backseat to Hamilton's physical well being and making sure his family got through the ordeal. The Cardinals put him on the non-football related injured list before the regular season, after Hamilton had a strong training camp earned a starting job on defense.
