The county reported 3,410 new positive COVID-19 cases on Friday, Dec. 30. Officials gave three steps to reduce coronavirus spread.

With New Year’s Eve at hand and holiday parties on tap, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health on Friday, Dec. 30, trumpeted “three simple steps” to help reduce the spread of the coronavirus.

Friday’s daily case number represented a dip of 558 from the figure reported a day earlier. Hospitalizations also fell by 20 day over day, but the death toll was three more than Thursday’s. The health department also noted that, over the past seven days, the average number of daily COVID-19-positive patients in county hospitals held fairly steady — averaging 1,207 this week compared to 1,235 last week.

Wearing a mask in indoor public spaces and in very crowded outdoor spaces, preferably an N95, KN95 or KF94, worn securely over the nose and mouth.“Even if they test negative for COVID-19, other respiratory illnesses are circulating at high levels this winter,” the department said, “including flu and respiratory syncytial virus, and both viruses can cause serious illness, hospitalizations, and death.
