Televised games begin next week with a game between La Jolla and Madison
Now, with the college conference shuffle, an expanded playoff system and big-money guarantees, college football has entered the Friday fray. Twelve high-profile Big Ten and Big 12 will air on Fridays this fall, starting Sept. 13 on Fox.
“We partnered with YurView last season and were really happy,” said Todd Cassen, CIF San Diego Section assistant commissioner. “We didn’t do them any favors with a Thursday schedule, so we’re going on Fridays. We think the schedule we have will be a big hit.YurView pays a rights fee of $500 per game. Cassen said the rights fee goes directly to the host schools to cover costs.Rifkind has worked college games on TV and can be heard on San Diego Sports 760.
On any given Friday in the fall, there are about 7,000 high school football games being played across the country — with close to 50 of those in the CIF San Diego Section. High school sports should not have to compete with colleges for that revered and time-honored space on Friday nights.San Diego State plays twice on Fridays, first on Nov. 1 at Boise State, then again at home on Nov. 8 against New Mexico. Both games kick off at 5 p.m. and will air on Fox Sports 1.The NFL will play every day of the week this season except Tuesday.
