Two NBA stars will make over $100 million this year
As more revenue flows into the NBA from ticket sales, TV contracts and merchandise, player salaries have gone up a lot. The NBA has seen its revenue quadruple to $10 billion over the past 20 years, according to Statista, and during that time the average player salary jumped to $3.9 million from $2.3 million.
Tie-10. Nikola Jokic, $54.6 million Jokic, 28, is a newly minted NBA champion with the Denver Nuggets and has won two Most Valuable Player Awards. The Serbian center has endorsements deals with Panini and Western Union WU, +1.26%, and is famously known in NBA circles for owning racehorses. Tie-7. Joel Embiid, $57.6 million Harden’s teammate Joel Embiid is the reigning MVP of the league. Embiid, 29, recently exited his shoe contract with Under Armour UAA, +1.39% and signed a deal with Skechers, a casual shoe brand that will now make performance basketball shoes, this season.
4. Giannis Antetokounmpo, $85.6 million The two-time NBA MVP for the Bucks is one of the top players in the league, and he is compensated well for it. Antetokounmpo, 28, has a signature shoe deal with Nike NKE, +1.98%, and endorses Epic Games, Google and JBL.3. Kevin Durant, $91.4 million Durant, 35, is hoping to lead the Phoenix Suns this season to the franchise’s first title.
Curry also has a deal with Under Armour, and is the face of their basketball shoe brand. That deal is worth $215 million, per CNBC, and includes $75 million of equity in the apparel brand.
