A rezoning proposal for the National Archives site near Cuddy Park passed the Anchorage Assembly unanimously, as amended, at Tuesday night's meeting.
The site was touted for years as a possible new home of a National Archives location but is currently serving as a camp for people experiencing homelessnessANCHORAGE, Alaska - A rezoning proposal for the National Archives site near the Cuddy Park encampment passed unanimously, as amended, at Tuesday’s regular meeting of the Anchorage Assembly.
The Brawley-Volland amendment aimed to allow ecological restoration by including creek channels and natural features in the future restoration work on the site. Bronson Administration Communication Director Veronica Hoxie said the mayor is supportive of the Brawley-Volland amendment and was part of the discussions behind it. Bronson is also supportive of development on the site, she said.
“The Administration has proposed a rezone of the National Archives site, with the intent for the municipality to eventually dispose the site,” Rivera said, “to sell it to a private party for development. So right now, this is the first step.”
