, Yordan Alvarez answered questions in the clubhouse with his left hand gripping the knob of a black baseball bat. Asked why, Alvarez joked it was, “Just in case I don’t like one of the questions.”
All this after he took just seven plate appearances in spring training, thanks to a lingering hand injury. Alvarez arrived at the plate with his team trailing by two runs and a runner on base — the kind of opportunity he relishes. He crushed the first pitch he saw near the strike zone, a 1-0 fastball, off the left-field wall for a two-run double.
