Astros insider: Chas McCormick's leaping grab a defensive gem amid offensive outburst

McCormick both timed his catch high off the left-center wall in the top of the sixth inning off a sky-high fly ball by the Cubs’ Dansby Swanson and finished with a smooth fall — not exactly a roll — on the warning track dirt.McCormick, who was even a little surprised he caught it, first lifted his glove to show the umpires that the ball was snug in his leather before throwing it back to the infield.
“I didn’t think I caught it,” McCormick admitted afterward with a smile. “Going up to , I didn’t think I had a chance, I thought it was hitting off the wall. … I was kind of shaded over to right-center but I kind of was thinking might drive the ball to left-center, and that’s what he did. “It was higher and I had to really extend and jump as high as I could,” McCormick said of retiring an exasperated Swanson, who wound up 0-for-4 on the night. “… In left-center, the wall is out and in so you kind of have to figure that out. … It was a tough one, I had to jump as high as I could.”
