Asylum-seekers and others staying in New York City's homeless shelters would face no time limits on their stays under a City Council bill being introduced on Thursday.

These notices are creating further chaos and confusion for a group of people who are here to start new, safe lives, dignified lives.the city's decades-old right-to-shelter protections for single adults – safety net obligations set forth in a 1981 consent decree.

Hanif argued the administration’s stay limits will cost the city more money because many migrants are returning to the city’s intake center at the Roosevelt Hotel in Midtown to reapply for shelter after reaching the limit.
