A deadly Sunday night on Houston roadways ended with at least three people dead and nine others hospitalized following two separate fatal car crashes, authorities said.
The first crash occurred when a truck and an SUV collided at the intersection of Fallbrook and Fairbanks in northwest Houston around 9:30 p.m, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said on Twitter. The SUV driver and a passenger were pronounced dead, Gonzalez said, and the truck's five passengers were transported to a hospital in unknown conditions.The second deadly collision of the evening occurred around 10:30 p.m.
Initial reports indicated the incident may have been a"chain-reaction" crash set off by one person in the car being shot in the hip, Gonzalez said. The gunshot victim, a man of unknown age, was transported to a hospital for treatment, the sheriff said. Soon after, sheriff's deputies were called to 11600 Walnut Dale Court about 15 miles south of the motorcycle-car collision, to what they believe is a related crime scene. Responding officers found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds, Gonzalez said, and another woman had wounds from being"pistol whipped."Gonzalez said investigators are continuing to unravel the events that led to the shooting and the crash Sunday. He did not say how the two incidents were related.
