I definitely didn't want to sidestep any problems, but I actually think a lot of the problems that K-pop has and that the book explores are pretty universal as far as industries or systems that profit off of young people's talents and their dreams. That's almost anything. It's professional sports. It's dance competitions. It's getting into college. It's everything to get by in a capitalistic world or society.

I really started to empathize with both sides of the social media coin in terms of it [being] one of the most powerful tools for good, at least for fandom. Because look at all the amazing stuff that happens when K-pop fans get together on social media. But even aside from K-pop, just the backlash, in general, of social media is so scary.
