San Diego State focuses on better pursuit angles and wrapping up ball carriers after missing 35 tackles against Arizona
The first time Arizona got its hands on the football last week against San Diego State, something happened that hasn’t been an issue during a decade of sustained success for the Aztecs.Arizona punt returner Dorian Singer fielded the ball at his 19-yard and ran virtually sideline to sideline, shedding three would-be tacklers before SDSU’s Mekhi Shaw grabbed Singer’s right leg and refuse to let go until the tackle was made.
“We can’t sit here and patty cake around and say, ‘We did good here.’ We’ve got to look at the negative stuff and what we’ve got to fix to get better.”“We just have to work harder and do better at it,” he said. “When you do poorly at something, there’s only one way to fix it, and that’s to work harder at it. So we’re going to work harder at tackling the rest of the week and the rest of the season.”The Bengals were a 21 1/2-point underdog against UNLV.
Hoke said the biggest concern is “wet ball stuff.” He said this week’s preparations would include practicing with a wet ball.
