President Joe Biden has met with key retailers to ensure that much-needed baby formula shipments will start filling up shelves again.
To that end, thehas instructed the U.S. Department of Agriculture to work with states to allow recipients of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children to be able to use their benefits on a wider variety of products, especially if certain sizes or types of formula that are normally approved is out of stock.
Finally, while the U.S. produces about 98% of formula, the FDA is working with trading partners in Mexico, Chile, Ireland and the Netherlands to import some products from those areas.
