After being released by Carolina, Baker Mayfield is heading to Los Angeles.
Unfortunately for Mayfield, the 2022 Rams aren’t to be confused with the team that beat the Bengals 23-20 in the Super Bowl.
But unless Mayfield has a dramatic turnaround overnight, the Rams are getting a quarterback who struggled mightily in Carolina and had been demoted to third string behind Sam Darnold and PJ Walker. In his last start for the Panthers, Mayfield threw two interceptions in a 13-3 loss to the Ravens in Week 11. More so than anything, Mayfield needs to rebuild confidence and try to get back to the player he was in 2020, when he went 11-5, throwing 26 touchdowns and only eight interceptions, and led the Browns to the AFC divisional round against the Chiefs. He’s fallen so far, so fast from that player, and the one who set the NFL rookie record four touchdowns passes in 2018.
