BBC Radio 2 boss Lewis Carnie will leave the network this summer, bringing the curtain down on his 19-year tenure at the U.K.’s most popular radio station.

“Lewis is the envy of the industry for spotting and securing talent and over the years he has brought to Radio 2 some of Britain’s most loved presenters,” said Clarke. She said the exec -- who is in charge of the network’s day-to-day output -- would be a “hard act to follow” and wished him best of luck in his future pursuits.
“After 19 glorious years at BBC Radio 2, it’s time to take a leap of faith and move on to new challenges,” said Carnie in an email to BBC staff, seen byHe said he was proud that the station “keeps millions of people entertained each day” and thanked his colleagues “for their dedication and passion, which makes Radio 2 both a very special radio station, and a fantastic place to work.”
Having begun his media career in advertising and commercial radio, Carnie joined Radio 2 in 2001 as an executive producer for live music and events. His subsequent rise through the ranks included stints as head of programmes for Radio 2 and 6 Music, before being promoted to senior head of content commissioning in 2016, assuming leadership of the hugely popular adult-contemporary formatted station.
